Refugees from Ukraine who have found shelter in the Republic of Moldova, along with Moldovan citizens, are acquiring new professions that will enhance their chances for integration, social cohesion, and economic independence. This opportunity is provided by the “Social Alternatives” Public Association in Ungheni district, which has redirected its efforts to support these individuals.
The project “Integrated humanitarian response for conflict-affected Ukrainians and third-country nationals from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and Moldova,” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, offers a wide range of professional courses tailored to the needs and interests of participants. The “Social Alternatives” Association facilitates access to these courses, providing a real chance for professional retraining and improving their prospects for integration into the labor market. The project is implemented by the Alliance of NGOs active in the field of Child and Family Social Protection, in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH) and five other NGOs in the country.
Diverse opportunities for professional retraining
The program offers a wide range of professional courses tailored to the needs and interests of participants, such as pastry, hairdressing, or any other area of interest for the beneficiaries. The costs of the courses are covered by the “Social Alternatives” Association through the project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. Additionally, the association aims to support course graduates in acquiring the necessary equipment for practicing their new profession or providing assistance in obtaining funds from other sources. These opportunities enable them to cope with market challenges and reduce their level of vulnerability. At the same time, they ensure increased community cohesion.
Social integration of children
In addition to programs dedicated to adults, the project pays special attention to the social integration of refugee children and those from vulnerable Moldovan families. Families receive medical assistance, financial support, and social cohesion programs. Children are integrated into the educational system, benefiting from quality education and the chance to develop their potential. They also participate in various extracurricular and community activities, including English courses, fitness, basketball, painting, singing, and Zumba Kids. Families and children are presented with options, and the association ensures that the necessary costs are covered. The project organises trips for children abroad, offering them opportunities for discovery and socialisation. Additionally, children participate in competitions with prizes and various community events.
The “Social Alternatives” Association, through the project, has a significant impact on the lives of refugees and Moldovan citizens in the Ungheni district. By offering social integration programs, the project contributes to improving their quality of life and building a more stable future.
“Social Alternatives” is one of the five partner non-governmental organisations involved in the project “Integrated humanitarian response for conflict-affected Ukrainians and third-country nationals from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and Moldova,” implemented by the Alliance of NGOs active in the field of child and family social protection, in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.
